Local News

Children's Cheerleaders

Yesterday afternoon, all the elementary school students donned their handmade fluorescent yellow pom-poms, a symbol of their learning and awareness of ski slope safety. Cédric Bonnevie, Director of the Ski Patrol, Gérard Vuillermoz, as well as Pascal Richerand and Marc Pesas, were present for the pom-pom ceremony. It's a strong symbol of commitment to slope safety and proper behavior.

These fluorescent yellow pom-poms will be worn by the children, as well as by the instructors and ski patrollers. They will serve as a distinctive mark and symbol of the slope safety ambassadors. Anyone interested in participating in this initiative can also make their own yellow pom-pom.

Occupancy

For this first week of the school holidays, the occupancy rate will be 79%, with a total of 96,900 overnight stays. This will be the quietest week of the month, as Cécile Ferrando, Director of the Tourist Office, explains in detail.

The occupancy rate for the winter holidays is currently at 85.3%. This week, the village will mainly feature French visitors from Zone A, Germans, Portuguese, and also Scandinavians, including 642 Danes.

Road Traffic

For the roads, traffic will be heavily disrupted today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for departures and congested for returns from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tomorrow, traffic will be smooth in both directions, with possible slowdowns around 6 p.m. This weekend, 73,000 vehicles are expected heading north and 65,000 south on the roads of the Tarentaise Valley.

RECITA Plan

To ensure safety and prevent traffic congestion in the event of heavy traffic at the start of the winter holidays, the DIR Centre-Est (Regional Directorate of Roads for the Central-Eastern Region) has just published a communication guide for road users explaining the traffic management system in the Tarentaise Valley, also known as RECITA. This system was designed to make journeys safer and smoother in the region, particularly by facilitating access to Tarentaise ski resorts during peak periods. Implemented on the RN 90 near Moûtiers, traffic lights are installed approaching high-risk areas and can be activated in case of traffic congestion to ensure the safety of motorists. When the RÉCITA system is activated, several exits from the RN 90 may be temporarily closed. As the RN 90 is the only route to the town of Moûtiers and the Tarentaise ski resorts, it is imperative to stay on it. Using secondary roads can cause further delays, hinder emergency response, and lengthen travel time for all motorists. Note that traffic on the RN 90 towards the resorts increases by 40% during the February school holiday weekends.

French Alps Tour

Due to weather conditions, the Super-G race of the French Alps Tour was canceled yesterday morning in Tignes. This was the last race before the Milan Cortina Paralympic Games, which will take place from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 15.
