WEATHER

We woke up to a fresh covering of snow in the village  and up to 20 centimetres on our slopes.
The clouds will clear to allow the sun to shine.

At 10.00 the temperature is

  • +2° in the Village.
  • -3° on Solaise.
  • -4° on Bellevarde
  • -8° on Pisaillas

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +5°.

ROADS

No problems are anticipated on the roads in the village,
but for those travelling, your journey is likely to be slow both coming up and going down the mountain.

SKI REPORT

Most pistes and lifts are open and in fab condition.

The few closures are :

  • Tunnel piste in Le Fornet.
  • On Bellevarde :
  • Joseray, which is being prepared for the Altigliss.
  • Moutons can’t open as
  • Mont Blanc chairlift is still waiting for a spare part.
  • The snow park wasn't open at 10.00 but should if the visability improves.

The 3000 lift and piste on Solaise are open so after taking the steep draglift why not
walk through the tunnel and enjoy the spectacular view of le Fornet.

The L and the Santons will probably close by lunchtime.
Photos of the huge avalanche into the L at 16.00 on Thursday, two days ago, are on our website.
Look at them, memorise them, and remember them before  ignoring closed signs.

Most pistes were groomed last night,
however snow rudely fell on some pistes after they were groomed.
New snow on a smooth base is perfect for most of us but
this might confuse and challenge beginners !
Don’t forget getting a lift down at the end of the day will
save your legs from heavy, chopped up snow.
And protect your sense of humour !

The following were not groomed

AT LE FORNET

  • Fôret
  • Signal
  • Petit Bois

ON SOLAISE

  • Combe Martin
  • Cugnai
  • Marmottons
  • S

ON BELLEVARDE

  • Epaule du Charvet

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is again 2 out of 5.

IF you fancy skiing off piste,
There wasn’t a freeze significant enough to create Spring snow and
the snow is likely to be heavy on the lower slopes.
Yesterday there were several significant avalanches
including a slab in the Cugnai.
Choose companions who would be useful in an emergency.
If they are just good fun in a bar,
book to ski off  piste with a mountain guide.

All of our walking paths and cross county tracks
are open apart from les Branges.

LOCAL NEWS

Another Saturday, another changeover day.
Less than 30,000 vehicles will be travelling in each direction,
but it would be overly optimistic to assume a smooth, swift journey.

The dual carriageway between Albertville and Moutiers will be busy
08.00 - 16.00
for those going downhill and
12.00 - 20.00
if heading towards us.

If you have to leave today, what about a
last ski, tasty lunch or swim
and leave after 15.00.
Best option would be to stay until tomorrow......

This week is the second week of « non-school holidays ».
The occupation rate of nearly 79% includes 1000 more overnight stays than last week,
and is about the same as this week last season.

Most of this increase can be explained by the 1000 students, 30 nationalities, arriving today for a week of

  • Skiing
  • Competing
  • Concerts
    and
  • Parties.

The GEM Altigliss Challenge opens today.
It is organised by the Business School in Grenoble
and billed as the Student Ski World Cup.
The teams have been working hard, preparing the Joseray piste and
the area near the bottom of the Solaise bubble, which will be their base.

Over the week the competitions are divided into three broad categories

And range from challenging downhill and uphill skiing
to less serious events, such as sledging.

The students can also join in the fun of this week’s

Evening events including concerts are only for the students,
but the highlight of this week, « Riders First » freestyle competition is open to everyone.

Intrigued ?
We will be telling you more about these events in the coming days.
This is the 13th year that the students have come here and they have
no interest in changing the venue as Val d'Isère  has so much to offer.
Our resort just cannot be beaten !
GEM Altigliss Challenge
There is an interview with their President, Baptiste Lalanne, on our website.

We often warn you that the piste L on Solaise will close early due to the risk of avalanche.
Like the Santons on Bellevarde, the piste is not only a gulley,
but there is a much narrower area lower down
so is prone to deep avalanches.
There was a serious slide at 16.00 on Thursday.
The piste was closed and luckily no skier had slipped under the ropes at that time.
Photos sent by the ski patrollers have been posted on our website.
Sober visual reminders why the pistes are sometimes closed early,
and skiing on a closed piste is never a good idea.
