Today is looking to be a little bit mixed, clear skies for most of the morning then snow is inbound for the afternoon and into tonight, ahead of a snowy week. Good news though as we definitely needed it.
The wind will be light all day, as the Foehn wind sticks around it will prevail from the South West and gently blowing up to 30kmh on the peaks.
Temperatures are set to reach a high of a relatively mild 5 degrees in town, and -5 at 2000m so it will feel a little brisk up there.
Temperatures at 09:00 were sitting at 0 degrees on Bellevarde, -2 degrees in Town, and -6 degrees on the Pisaillas glacier.
Ski Report:
A pretty good day if youre heading into the mountains today, with some fresh snow and almost everything is set to open.
In Le Fornet sector, everything is open today except the piste tunnel which remains closed.
On the Pissaillas Glacier, and everything is open without any restrictions.
Up in Solaise everything is open except the 3000 drag lift which is still closed due to lack of snow
As for Bellevarde, everything is open, including both liaisons with Tignes—the Tommeuse and Borsat chairs are both running.
All walking and ski touring trails are also opening, so plenty of options for those looking to explore.
The avalanche risk is 2/5 today.
With the whispering of this lovely fresh powder, at last, you may be keen to head off piste.
I must remind you that the avalanche risk is always to be taken seriously, If you are heading off piste make sure you have got all the kit, dont be an all the gear and no idea kind of person … make sure you know how to use it! This includes a transiever, shovel and probe. If you've got an experienced person or two handy take one of those too, or even better hire a guide if you are not sure what you are doing!
The road surfaces are mostly clear, but pavements can be slippery so do take care when moving around on foot.
Classicaval
Last night, a musical preview of the Classicaval Festival took place in a hotel in Val d'Isère (our photo).
A group of attendees enjoyed a private concert by Svetlin Roussev and Chloé Roussev.
During this father-daughter performance, baroque and romantic music filled the hotel hall, featuring pieces such as Niccolò Paganini's Caprices and Jean-Marie Leclair's Sonata for Two Violins.
For the first time, the Baron Wittgenstein 1716 Stradivarius resonated under the fingers of its holder, Svetlin Roussev, an internationally renowned Bulgarian violinist. The violin is a loan from the Bulgarian government to the artist for the next five years in recognition of his exceptional talent.
The exceptional public concert will take place tomorrow at 6 PM in the Saint-Bernard de Menthon church.
