affiche-nuit-de-la-lecture

WEATHER

You will have a sunny Friday !
Cool morning then a warmer afternoon.
Wind may gust from the South west at up to 60 km/hour.

At 9.40 the temperature is

  • -7° in the Village.
  • -2° on Bellevarde.
  • -5° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +4°

ROADS

No problems are expected on our roads today.
But they are likely to be busy tonight, and busier tomorrow.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

The 3000 draglift on Solaise
and the Signal draglift in le Fornet
are the only lifts due to be closed all day.
You may have heard that a winch cable broke
on Monday night and the huge grooming machine
slid rapidly and took out a pylon,
but a rapid repair plan has been hatched.
The Signal drag should be open in time for the school holidays.

ON BELLEVARDE
There is training on the Raye.

The Epaule du Charvet was groomed last night….
If a difficult steep black run sounds fun,
and is within your skillset, it would be a good morning to go there.
There is an option to sneak into the Santons
to avoid the impressive final wall.
PLEASE don’t just do a steep black run
just because you have never done one before,
and are going home tomorrow.
You could always lie to your Friends in Fulham !
Better option than falling, sliding faster and faster
and injurying someone else.

ON SOLAISE
Just the 3000 piste is closed.
The Ecureuil touring track is never pisted.
Head pisteur Cedric, describes it as both natural and technical.
The Brinzei touring track in la Daille is regularly pisted and more suitable for Training tourers.

In the Fornet the Foret is never groomed.
Tunnel and Signal  are closed.

On Pisaillas
The Cascade, Montets, Combe du Geant and
Traverse des Arses are not open.

Please remember that the zones tranquilles and
the Monde du Gypaete are primarily for beginners.
Don’t buzz fast past beginners.
It is not fair, and dangerous.

The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
If you fancy skiing off piste, do your team understand
the area and today’s conditions ?
Tempting tracks may lead you over a cliff,
onto rocks or into a deep hole.
None of which are fun.
Make sure your team are appropriately equipped with at least
beep, probe and shovel. Airbag is also nice.
Do they ALL know how to use them ?
Could all of them find and dig YOU out quickly?
Remember – your revered leader could be the one that is buried.
Any doubts ? Stay on piste !
Or book to ski off piste with a mountain guide.

Please don’t attempt  the Gorge du Malpasset
even if it was absolutely fabulous when you were last here.
You would have to plead politely with a pisteur
for help getting home.
This would not be cheap.

If you are going to Tignes use the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.
Don’t forget the last lift back is 16.30
If you miss it Panic Not. There is a shuttle bus.

For Cross country skiers
There are tracks prepared for you to
In the Manchet Valley and Lac Ouillette.

All our walking paths are open
except the Col de l'Iseran, as wind might affect the lift.
It would be a very long walk home…

Don’t forget, skiing on our footpaths and roads
Is both dangerous and illegal. You will be fined.

LOCAL NEWS

This week is the 9th French Annual festival ‘The reading nights’.
The 4th arranged by the Cultural book department.
The 2nd time Val has hosted an event.
This years theme is « Heritage ».
Anything passed down from generation to generation.
Cheeky stories or dark tales.
Real or fantasy.
Tailored, embellished or condensed by the narrator.
Over 4 nights there are events across France,
both online and in person.
Val’s cultural department, Town hall and library have been busy
working together to prepare tonight’s event.
We take you to 3 venues including
the chapels in La Daille and le Fornet
which are not normally open to the public.
At 17.30 in La Daille
45 minutes of songs, dance and tales of old,
particularly for our youngest friends.
At 18.30, at the other end of our resort.
In Le Fornet, poetry enjoyed by anyone over 6.
Finally head to the farm, at 20.00, join the animals in their barn
for family-friendly stories and traditional songs.

Yesterday's Annual Health Day was well attended.
All tests and appointments were well used!
Results will be ready next Thursday.

Warning from the Tourist Office.
Especially as the busy School holiday period is fast approaching.
There are mean but clever gremlins lurking online, ready to rob you.
Charming ‘customers’ collect detailed information
before using this to sell luxurious, but fake, accommodation
or even claim refunds for holidays they have
never paid for.
Only book through reputable sites.
Always be careful with your bank details.
Last year, on a well respected booking website,
there was a beautiful chalet, with pool, snooker table, sauna and chef
for a bargain 50 euros per person per night.
The clue, apart from the price, that this was « unusual » -
A note on a photo with a number to contact the owner directly.
A family transferred the money, arrived here.
Then had to find a real hotel.
Their credit card hurt.
Never underestimate how evil people can be.
