SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
Life here is always good, but today will be even better
if you remember your low light goggles.
The 3000 draglift is our only closed lift.
Most pistes are both open and groomed.
ON BELLEVARDE
The final wall of the challenging black run, the Epaule du Charvet
has not been groomed, but you can escape into the Santons.
The Border Cross, and possibly parts of the Snow Park
will be closed if the visibility makes them dangerous.
There is training on the Raye, but it will be open for you.
ON SOLAISE
Only the 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The Cugnai, S and the Marmottons were not groomed
For safety reasons, vsibility may restrict the junior border cross.
LE FORNET
Everything is open except for the Tunnel.
ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open.
Everything is open on the nursery slope, including the tobogganing area.
The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
Lowish risk, but still a risk.
The poor visibility should make you more cautious, control your speed.
There are cliffs, holes and plenty of rocks.
If tempted by Skiing off piste, look forensically at your friends.
Do they all have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Know how to use them, have they practiced regularly and recently ?
Do any of them know the area, well ?
Any doubts ? Stay on piste or book to ski with, and learn from,
a mountain guide.
Val have launched a "rule reminder" campaign,
so everyone can feel safe on our slopes.
First easy rule to remember :
The skier arriving from above is ALWAYS
Responsible for avoiding those below.
No ifs or buts.
Leave LOADS of space around them when overtaking
so they can still do a weird wobble without you
wipeing them out….
Injuring yourself is a shame
Injuring someone else is a crime.
LOCAL NEWS
Arriving for a holiday in Val, you would be forgiven for thinking
that the cost of living crisis has skied past us.
But no.
A recent survey including both people who live here all year around
and seasonal workers showed that many are struggling,
particularly with the rapidly rising food prices.
All very well telling them to “Shop in Bourg”, which is better value than Val,
though not technically “cheap”.
There is a tangible cost of getting there and back.
Many live in cramped accommodation
so "cooking from scratch" can be challenging,
let alone stocking up “Down the Valley”
as they have don’t have space to store a stash.
Local businesses, including the lift company, Town Hall and the Vie Val d’Is
are working with our social services (CCAS), exploring ways they can help.
The 2nd of 4 workshops focusing on these very real problems
is taking place at midday today.
Already, in the last 2 months 660 euros of food vouchers have been distributed
to those most in need.
A start… but not yet good enough.
Without happy workers, we won’t have happy clients.
You might remember the famous Parisian Comedians
first visit to Val last season.
Well, they are back !

every Thursday night during the school holidays.

it has given birth to, or at least a stage to,
a whole new generation of comedians.

Papy Stub didn’t disappoint !
He had 60 or so children and their parents
singing and dancing yesterday evening.
Finally, our senior citizens are invited by the CCAS to
an afternoon of board games and homemade hot chocolate.
