Town Council
Yesterday morning, the March town council meeting, the last of this term, was held with 18 elected officials present. The council approved the minutes of the January 5th and February 2nd town council meetings. The mayor then announced the 25 decisions made before moving on to the eleven items on the agenda. Among the deliberations discussed were the reassessment of census takers' compensation for the 2026 census, the creation of a joint procurement group for a public transportation contract on the Tignes-Val d'Isère route this summer, and the 2026 annual objectives agreement for the Val d'Isère audiovisual and musical entertainment development association. Several points sparked debate and votes that were not unanimous, such as joining the ANMSM 2026 (one vote against and one abstention recorded), two abstentions recorded regarding the agreement for the use of the radio relay at the Rocher de Bellevarde site, and the "Mountain Law" agreement for the Coin area (one abstention recorded during the vote). During the miscellaneous business section, various topics were discussed, including the sharing of revenue with Tignes and the possible withdrawal of the SDIS 73 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Savoie) from our village. At this final town council meeting, the mayor congratulated and thanked all elected officials for their six years of service. Due to the municipal elections, the inaugural meeting of the next town council is scheduled for Friday, March 20, provided that more than 25% of registered voters cast their ballots on Sunday, March 15. The full minutes are available on our website.
Impulsion Avaline
Last night, the second public meeting of the municipal election candidate list, Impulsion Avaline, was held, with Patrick Martin at the top of the list. Nearly 80 people attended the meeting at the Henri Oreiller Convention Center to meet all the candidates, learn about the four main points of their platform, and discuss the list. Several topics were raised by the residents of Val d'Isère, including urban planning, housing, the Local Urban Development Plan (PLU), the Face à Face building, the youth council, the citizens' commission, as well as the SEM's budget, the 2030 Olympic Games, snow cannons, alcohol consumption on the slopes, building fire safety, the image and communication of Val d'Isère Tourism, the functioning of the inter-municipal authority, and traffic flow between Tignes and Val d'Isère. The next and final public meeting will take place this Sunday at 6:00 PM at the Henri Oreiller Convention Center.
Pom-pom Operations
You may have spotted bright yellow pom-poms on the slopes or in the village. Val d'Isère is launching a new awareness campaign about slope safety. All ski area and safety personnel will be wearing their yellow pom-poms, the symbol of slope safety ambassadors. The pom-pom initiative, initially conceived for Val d'Isère children as part of their Junior Ski Patroller training, provides an opportunity to discuss safety and behavioral rules on the ski slopes. Throughout the resort, at lift departures and welcome points, the pom-pom will be attached to the clothing and helmets of qualified personnel: instructors, ski patrollers, lift operators, gendarmes, police officers, elected officials, municipal staff, and paramedics. This campaign will continue on Tuesdays in conjunction with other safety events such as the Giant Slalom. An information and awareness point will be set up today, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on the snow front.
Super-G Awareness
The Val d'Isère ski patrol invites you to experience the thrill of Super-G during a race open to all. After its great success last week, the speed awareness event returns to the Borsat green run, Bellevarde sector, for a fun and engaging introduction to safety. Super-G will be offered from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in a dedicated, specially prepared and secured area, allowing you to enjoy the speed with complete confidence.
ESF Show
Tonight, the night will be dazzling. The instructors from the French Ski School (ESF) will present an exceptional show. On the program: a torchlight descent and demonstrations of freestyle and synchronized skiing. The ESF Show will be followed by a fireworks display. ESF instructors will be offering hot drinks so you can warm up while enjoying the show. Meet at 7:15 pm this evening at the bottom of the Face de Bellevarde.
