Bearded Vulture
Good news! A bearded vulture chick hatched in early March in the Daille Gorge nest. An encouraging birth for this endangered species. During the first two months, the chick is particularly vulnerable and entirely dependent on the tranquility of its environment. Therefore, the nest is located in a highly sensitive area in the Daille Gorge, where any disturbance must be avoided to ensure the chick's well-being. Within this area, certain activities can endanger the chick and are therefore strictly prohibited, including passing near the nest, noisy activities, drone flights, paragliding, and unusual human presence. Respect for this protected area directly impacts the young bearded vulture's survival.
Birday
Yesterday, the parakite competition took place as part of Bird Day, which will not be held tomorrow. The 25 best male and female pilots in this discipline competed in three rounds. They began with a timed descent on the Banane, next to the Face. They then completed a freeride run on the Charvet side before flying and skiing through various obstacles such as poles to touch, gliding zones, and landing in a target. Nico Tuaz won this first world competition with 59 points, followed by Alex Jamgotchian and Tanguy Bertrand, tied with 53 points. In the women's competition, Garance Vogeli took first place with 59 points, followed by Marion Degelcke with 53 points and Céline Sozio with 52 points. Despite the cancellation of tomorrow's Bird Day, the best pilots from France and the world were still able to put on a magnificent aerial display in the Manchet Valley.
Avalanche Dog Training
21 avalanche dogs and their handler-rescuers were present for two days near Datcha, in the Solaise sector, to carry out one of the four mandatory exercises per season to maintain their skill level and ensure their readiness to intervene in the field. Teams of avalanche rescue dogs from Val d'Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs, La Rosière, and La Plagne were able to train in avalanche rescue simulations.
Avalanche dogs are trained in play, searching for a buried person, and scent detection. During training sessions, the dogs are rewarded with a tug toy, which they will play with once the victim is found. This final exercise of the season went very well, as Marianne Desmons, an avalanche dog trainer in the Haute-Tarentaise region.
Two young puppies from the Maurienne and Méribel ski resorts were also in training. From Monday to Thursday of next week, all the film crews from Savoie will participate in a four-day refresher course organized in Val Cenis in the Maurienne valley. This assessment will determine whether the crew pairs are qualified to work next season.
