English Weather, News, Ski Report - January 27, 2024

WEATHER

Great news ! Clear sky, sunny and warm with only a very gentle wind avering 13 km/h with occasional gusts of 30 km/h.
There is still a temperature inversion, so cooler in the village than on the tops of our mountains.

Temperatures at 09.30 are

  • -5° in the Village.
  • -0° on Solaise.
  • -4° on Pisaillas.

Be careful when you leave your chalet as where there was slush yesterday, there was ice this morning. Where there was deep slush, there maybe thick ice BUT a small truck was out very early gritting the main pavements.

ROADS

Good news is that there are no problems on the roads in our village.

However have been struggled, but failed to include
'change over day', 'farmers' and 'Chambery' into a sentence that sounds even vaguely optimistic.

For those that have been concentrating on skiing rather than the French National News, the government has so far failed to appease disgruntled farmers, and their colleagues, who have been paralysing the motorways for the last few days.
Unfortunately the A43 will remain closed around the Chignin toll between Chambery, Grenoble and Albertville.
Adding to this misery is the large numbers of holidaymakers arriving and leaving today.
The only word that correctly summarises it is
Chaos.
If you have the chance to delay your drive, seize it.

Please don't attempt to ski down, unless you are involved in the training, until they have officially opened.

The following pistes were not groomed overnight.

  • Borsat
  • Epaule du Charvet

The Santons is open but may close later due the real risk of a slab avalanche.
If it is closed, do NOT ski down it.

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.

If considering skiing off piste.
Ski only off piste with people you know do regular, successful, beep searches.
Or stay on our beautifully groomed and well marked pistes until you are skiing with a mountain guide.

At the moment the lower slopes are ‘fast’ particularly after yesterdays “moisture” so PLEASE slow down so you don’t terrify beginners, or knock down pedestrians on the nursery slopes or in the well marked quiet areas ("Tranquille") of our slopes.

If your legs are tired, or if you are a beginner, bow out gracefully and take the lift down.

Top tip from the head of our ski patrol.
Don’t ski without insurance.

Cross Country Skiing tracks

Are all open.

All of our walking paths are open except les Branges.

Saturday Stats.
A quick peek at what we are expecting in the next 7 days.

100 boys are expected today and a 100 girls tomorrow for the slalom races which will take place in the Stade Olympique, on the lower part of the Face de Bellevarde.
Many locals are amongst the competitors today, with first heat starting at 10.15.
The rest of the Face will be open to the public, so please remember to pause and cheer on the racers.

World Cup downhill races.
Yesterday in Cortina, Austria's Stéphanie Venier won, ahead of Lara Gut Behrami and three tied for third place.
The fastest French lady was Laura Gauche of Tignes who came 14th.
They have another downhill today.

There are 8 French racers including this seasons rapidly rising star Cyprien Sarrazin.

No new Team GB news but we can continue to bask in their glory of the last few days.
