Weather

Conditions will be overcast across the morning, with clear patches appearing across the afternoon. A moderate West to South-Westerly wind will be present at altitude, averaging 30-40 km/hr at 3000m. Temperatures are set to stay below freezing today, expecting a top of -2 degrees in the village.
It's a chilly start to the morning, at 9 a.m. it is -4° in the village, -9° at the top of Solaise and -14° at Pisaillas.

Roads

Back to normal this morning after the chaos last night on the road in and out of town. The snowfall, coupled with the high number of visitors to our ski areas, blocked access to many of the local towns, including ours. With countless accidents and collisions, and cars stopped in the middle of the road to chain, everything came together to create a standstill for over 2 hours.

Ski Report

With 15cm of fresh snow measured on the snowfront it's going to be a fantastic day of skiing.

The Pisaillas area will be open for skiing today, with a slight delay on the Montet draglift. As for the Fornet area, the Signal drag lift will open with a delay, otherwise all runs are open apart from the Foret and the Tunnel.

Over on Solaise, all lifts will be open including the 3000 drag lift! The only closed run in the area is the Piste L. Everything is open on the snowfront today, including the tobogganing area.

In the Bellevarde sector, the Santon will remain closed due to a lack of snow. Skiing in Tignes can be accessed via either the Tommeuses or Borsat lifts.

Cross Country skiers can head out to the Manchet Valley, Lake d'Ouillette or La Daille. Whereas, pedestrians have most of the walking trails open.

The avalanche risk is 3/5 today. Always ski with a partner, have the appropriate gear and know how to use it, and if in doubt hire a guide.

Local News

Fantastic turnout last night on the snow front, to celebrate the transition to 2024. Val d'Isère Tourisme entertainment department estimated a crowd of 8,500 people, compared to 7000 last year. A crowd which particularly appreciated the musicians who gave it their all to warm up the audience. The highlight of the show, the fireworks, was set off despite the snow. The sky cleared shortly before midnight allowing Dick to post his countdown on the mountain. The evening continued with numerous fireworks displays everywhere.

As tradition dictates, the local news for the first day of the year is dedicated to the wishes of the mayor of Val d'Isère Patrick Martin, which can be found in french.
