Local News

Initially scheduled for this weekend, the Chamonix downhill events were cancelled due to lack of snow. As a result, the downhill athletes had a few days free, and the French took the opportunity to come and train with us. 8 athletes from the speed team were present skiing Friday, Saturday and today at the top of the OK run. Training on soft snow and under the sun, a nice reprieve for the French team who have had an intense month of January.
At the end of Saturday's training, the athletes were invited to the Val d'Isère Sports Club for a signing session. A great opportunity for the children of the club to meet their idols.
The team will continue to rest up until the next Downhill events, taking place in Kvitfjell, Norway, on February 17th and 18th.

On the other hand, today's Chamonix men's slalom will be going ahead as planned. The first heat starts at 9:30 a.m., with big hopes for the skier supported by the Val d'Isère Sports Club, Clément Noël, who won the event back in 2020. For the ladies, the speed events in Garmisch Partenkirchen have been cancelled.
The men had skied last weekend on a snow cover far from the icy standards of the FIS, and the continued mild weather affecting Europe have made things worse. For the safety of the racers the events will not run, unfortunately they cannot be replaced either.

Finally, in cultural news, a new edition of Docu-Sundays is this evening at the Splendide cinema. The first Sunday of every month, the cultural department of Val d'Isère's town hall invites you to the screening of a documentary in the theme of the inhabited mountains.
Tonight it’s time for “My life is a challenge” by Stephan Ritz. In 2020, the director followed Yves Auberson on a journey of more than 1,100km through the Swiss Alps. Yves, suffering from Parkinson's disease, wanted to take on this challenge to prove to himself that his illness was not a prison, and that it's still possible to push the limits.
A film full of hope, despite the difficult theme, see you all there at 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Splendide cinema.
