Weather

We have a generally clear and sunny day ahead of us, with moments of partial cloud cover throughout the day. A light to moderate Northerly wind will be averaging 40 km/hr up around 3000m, and it's currently gusting up to 15 km/hr at Pisaillas.
In regards to temperatures, at 9 o'clock it is -7°C in the village, -4°C at the summit of Bellevarde and -9°C at Pisaillas. The warming trend continues, expecting a maximum of 3 degrees at 2000m

Vehicles will have no issues on the local roads today.




Ski Report

Great conditions across the entire ski area , with all lifts and practically all runs open to the public today.

The Pisaillas and Fornet sectors will be open, with all runs apart from the Tunnel.

Over on Solaise, everything is open, likewise on the snowfront. With the warm temperatures in the afternoon, there is a chance piste L may close later this afternoon.

In the Bellevarde sector, there is race training this morning on the top sections of the OK and Orange runs and the Raye, and it will re-open to the public later in the day. Skiing in Tignes can be accessed via both the Borsat and Tommeuse chairlifts.

Cross Country skiers and Pedestrians can choose from any of our trails and ski loops today, apart from the Branges.

The avalanche risk is 2/5 today. Always ski with a partner, have the appropriate gear and know how to use it, and if in doubt hire a guide.

Local News

Today is Mardi Gras day, and Val d'Isère Téléphériques employees are swapping out their usual uniforms to put on their best fancy dress. Many costumes can be spotted today at the lift huts, especially on the snowfront, with a few courageous people braving the cold up high.
Today it's up to you to discover them all throughout your ski day.

The highlight of this week's entertainment, the instructors' torchlight descent will kick off this evening at 6:30 p.m. on the Face de Bellevarde. A well known show, with fireworks and local hot drinks served by the ESF instructors, set up in front of the Olympique cable car.
As for last 3 years, proceeds from the Ecocups will be donated to the association “Dans les Yeux de Gabin”.

As promised yesterday, here are the results of the skiers from the Val d'Isère Sports Club during the various competitions last week. Congratulations to Aloïs le France, winner of the écureuils d'or GS and super G which took place in Ste Foy and Tignes last week. Also in the Giant Slalom, Nolan Brusco finished 2nd in his category.
Other podiums during sunday's U12's bronze cup include Jackson Schniewind taking the win in the first course, Come Ferrando first in his age category and Louis Pierre in third. In the second race, Jackson finished 2nd but the 2013 podium was dominated by other local skiers; Come, Louis and Gaspard Sene.

The village elderly are invited to meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Council Room for a crochet workshop. A snack will accompany this friendly gathering.

Today's Events

- STVI Carnaval: To celebrate the Mardi Gras, Val d'Isère Téléphériques agents swap their uniforms for colourful costumes. To be discovered all day long in the ski area.
- 10 a.m. Nature as an open book: Observation of mountain wildlife with Steve, equipped with a telescope and books from the media library. Binoculars can be borrowed. Meet up in front of the media library.
- 6:30 p.m.: Instructors' torchlight descent: The ski instructors of Val d'Isère offer you their torchlight descent of the Face de Bellevarde to the sound of the DJ, followed by fireworks. Mulled wine is offered with an Ecocup (€2 deposits, entirely donated to the local charity “Dans les yeux de Gabin”).

- The Tourism Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- The Aqua Leisure complex is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- The Vie Val d'Is will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then 3 – 6 p.m.
- The Media Library is open between 2 - 6 p.m.
- The Bookings centre is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- The Post Office is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then 2 – 5:30 p.m.
- The Town Hall is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then 2 – 6 p.m.

Free Public Transport

- The Red Shuttle will be circulating between La Daille and the Fornet every 6 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then every 20 minutes until 2 a.m.
- The Yellow shuttle, up to the Manchet Valley, leaves every 20 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 11:20 p.m.
- The Blue shuttle going up to the Legattaz is every 15 minutes between 8:30 a.m and 11:20 p.m.
- The free shuttle between Tignes and Val d'Isère runs 6 times a day :
Departures from La Daille at 7:55 a.m. 8:35 a.m. 10:50 a.m. 4:25 p.m. 5:25 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
Departure from Tignes 1800 at 8:05 a.m. 8:45 a.m. 11 a.m. 4:35 p.m. 5:35 p.m. 6:30 p.m.
