WEATHER

Great start to the week - sunshine and new snow, though clouds may come back this afternoon. Not much wind.

At 10.00 the temperature is

  • +3° in the Village.
  • -2° on Solaise.
  • -3° on Bellevarde.
  • -7° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2200 metres will be 0°.

ROADS

No problems are expected on the roads.
Always worth checking that your car is properly and legally equipped for the snow.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

New snow !
12 cm on the nursery slope, 15 on Solaise and at least 25 on Pisaillas.

Nearly everything is both open  and groomed.
Only 1 lift will be closed all day.

ON BELLEVARDE
Epaule du Charvet and Brinzei touring track were not groomed.
The Santons opened but may close later.
This is due to the high risk of an avalanche filling this gulley.
If a piste is closed it is always for a very good reason.
Don’t go on it.
You would annoy our expert patrollers who may have to
risk their lives finding and digging you out.

ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The S, Cugnai, Marmottons  and Combe Martin were not groomed.
For tourers -the Ecureuil track is never groomed.

The Cugnai is late opening as they have a bit of security work to do on it first
to make sure it doesn’t move with you.

LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret, Signal, Table d’Orientation were not groomed.

ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and groomed except the Combe du Geant.
This was not groomed and may not open due to the risk of avalanche.

NURSERY SLOPE
Everything is open and groomed.

The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
Low risk but never no risk.

If you are heading off piste - do know really where you are going?
You would be unlucky to be buried today,
(ACTUALLY - you would always be unlucky to be buried !)
but there are plenty of holes and rocks.

If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.

All of our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open.

Today’s Top Pisteur tips :
Insurance that covers skiing.
Leave loads of room when overtaking.
Stand at the side of the piste when you stop.
Leave the quiet areas, and Monde du Gypaete for beginners -
More experienced skiers have the border cross on both Bellevarde and Solaise
to zoom down.

LOCAL NEWS

After its success in January, a mini version of Classicaval is back this week.
2 invitation only concerts.
The first is with 3 musicians at 18.30 in one of our hotels this evening.

Last week the Vie Val d’Is, the club for val’s employees, combined with
Queer Givrée and many of our bars to make Val a safe and inclusive place.
Last year they put in place the “Safe bar - Ask for Angela” scheme.
We are committed to training, welcoming, raising awareness,
supporting, protecting and fighting against
all racist, sexist, phobic behaviour.

The Freeski Academy was in Tignes Mountains shaker Festival
for the Freeride World Tour.
Val’s own Axel Irion came 5th in the Under 16’s.
Victoria Troubat took silver in the Under 18’s.
Noé Meunier won the mens.

Every Monday our avalanche expert, Franck, leads a seminar, in French
on snow and off piste safety at 18.00 in the Maison de Val.
Sadly there have already been fatal avalanches in Val this winter.
We can never know enough about the changing conditions,
preparation is everything.
Knowledge and equipment, choice of companion all help to minimise the risks.
But off piste is never risk free.

More good results for our "British-Val diser-ian Champions in the Training"
in Les Arcs this weekend.
Olivia Angus had a very good time !
Top of her year in the Under 12’s in the Slalom Bronze cup !
In the first race she was leading after the first run,
fell in the second but got back up ! And carried on.
So still came 4th for her year.
Then the 2nd race………….3rd overall
But first in her year.
Definitely one to watch !
Next weekend is the Savoie Carre Neige Cup Slalom
where she is going for gold !
In the boys race, Dougal Davison and Roscoe Schneiwind
both came 3rd in their year groups.
Well done to all of you - racing is tough, race days long and tiring,
let alone all the training before.
Not from Val, but still young and British.
Luca Carrick-Smith’s bronze in the Junior World Championship slalom
made him the first Brit to stand on a podium in an
Alpine World Junior Championships since
Graham Bell took the downhill podium 41 years ago.
More mature GB Glory.
Charlotte Bankes was in Georgia adding another
Snowboard Cross World Cup victory to her stash.
While our Telemark star, Jaz Taylor’s, latest World Cup win
gives her a very comfy lead in the World Cup rankings.

Which should be really interesting, we can never know enough,
particularly after the recent fatal avalanche.

To avoid disappointment…..for those that don’t follow spoken French.
It won’t be translated into English.
