WEATHER

Blue sky day, with a few decorative clouds at our peaks this afternoon.
But wind won’t bother you.

Warm.
At 9.30 the temperature is

  • +4° in the Village.
  • +2° on Solaise.
  • 0° on Bellevarde.
  • -4° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +11°.

ROADS

We are not expecting any problems during the day but if you are travelling during the night, read carefully.
Work is starting on the Siaix Tunnel, on the road between Albertville and Bourg, near Aime.
Much needed and will improve the drainage, lighting, electrics, signals and entilation.
The tunnel will be closed, in both directions, Monday to Friday 22.00 – 05.00.
There will be a diversion via Notre Dame du Pré
but nothing over 3.5 tons or longer than 5 metres,
unless you are driving a rescue vehicle.
As always, when approaching roadworks
Slow down
Don’t run them over the work folk…..

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Great start to your week !
Sun, lovely snow, most pistes opened and groomed, and only one lift closed.

But be careful - adapt to the changing snow,
and ski in control at all times….
The skier above is always responsible for avoiding anyone below.

The frozen surface can be rutted and very hard first thing,
Will gradually soften up when warmed by the sun
Before turning to sticky slush, especially on lower slopes.

Never forget that the snow higher up is better and we have
Fast, comfy lifts to get you down when you are ready to stop skiing.

ON BELLEVARDE
The FIS races for Flat countries (no joke) is on the upper parts of the OK and Orange
Every morning this week.
The lower parts of the Diebold, G and Epapule du Charvet
And The Brinzei touring track are closed, as the snow has melted.

ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste and
The lower part of the Marmottons are closed all day.

The upper part of the Marmottons, S, Cugnai
And Ecurreil touring track were not groomed.
This track is for experience tourers who can do a nifty kick turn.

LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret Is never groomed so expect
Hard frozen bumps in the morning,
Soft slushy bumps in the afternoon.
We don’t think the Table d’Orientation was groomed.

PISAILLAS
Everything is open.
Only the Pisaillas piste was not groomed.

NURSERY SLOPE.
Everything is groomed Including the tobogganing track,
though this is slightly shorter than usual.

The avalanche risk today is  2 out of 5.

If you are heading off piste –  do all your companions know what they are doing ?
Do they ALL have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Have they ever practised ?
Your life could depend on this.

Think, sun, time, temperature and exposure of the slope.
Any doubts – ski with a mountain guide.

If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.

Our multi activity and cross country tracks on the top of Solaise and in the Manchet valley are open.
A lot of the walking tracks at village level can no longer be groomed
so are officially closed but it is a very good day to
enjoy the spectacular views at the top of le Fornet  or Solaise.

LOCAL NEWS

Sad news – Michel Bailly died last week.
He first came to Val d’Isėre  in 1952 and in 1980 was the force behind organising the ESF courses and levels,
Not forgetting the annual race he sponsored that was named after him.
His funeral will be here on Wednesday.
Condolences to his large family, and hundreds of friends.

Happier news.
Met in Lima. Married in Val.
Claire Raveneau Montagnon and  Julio Acosta Navarro met in 2017 while studying in Peru
and on Saturday tied the knot in our village.
You may know Claire, who started working for the communication department of the Town Hall in 2023
and is one of the people who work hard to produce  the local magazine, Val Mag.
Congratulations to you both.

First Monday of the month so Council Meeting.

Still skiing, but at a more sedate pace.
Four of Val’s wise ladies
Who long ago hung up their own skis,
but still have the love of our views from the peaks,
thrill of the turn, the swoosh of speed….
On Saturday were UP on Bellevarde !
Michelle Bonnevie, Micheline Chevallot, Yvonne Ducarouge and Lilie Pouchkine
Were  accompanied by David Smétanine, a paralympic swimming champion.
And enjoyed their cosy thrones on skis,
driven from behind by ESF instructors, including Lilie’s son Philippe
who brought handiski to Val.
Go girls !
