English Weather, News, and Events - April 05, 2025

p2388821

A good morning it will be as we have sunny weather on the way today, with just a few high clouds making an appearance around lunch time and potentially some light rain overnight.

Temperatures are set to reach a spring like high of 8 degrees in town and a light wind will prevail from the northeast.

At 0900 temperatures were sitting at 1 degree on Bellevarde, 3 degrees in Town, and  -3 degrees on the pisaillas glacier.

Best not forget your sunnies and suncream as the UV index is 6, and panda style sunburns are debatable.

This morning the road surfaces were clear.

For this first week of the school holidays, the occupancy rate is forecast at 58.1%, which equals 54,400 overnight stays. France isn't the only country on holiday—visitors from Belgium, England, Germany, and Switzerland will also be in the resort. This is the busiest week in the past month before the end of the season on Saturday, May 4.

Traffic:
This first weekend of the Easter holidays for Zone B will see traffic disruptions today in the outbound direction from 1 PM to 6 PM. Delays are also expected this morning in the inbound direction from 10 AM to 1 PM. Tomorrow, traffic should be smooth in both directions. This weekend in Tarentaise, 53,000 vehicles are expected uphill and 52,000 downhill.

Little Big Festival:
The Little Big Festival was in full swing last night and hosted a beautiful awards ceremony at the Conference Centre. Around 400 people were present and wouldn’t have missed this evening, where laughter and great vibes were definitely on the agenda. For this 5th edition, five prizes were awarded instead of the usual four. A special prize was given to the after-school program children for their film "Rézoolution." The "UFO Prize," which promotes originality, was awarded to Léa and Tanguy for their short film Without. The Pisteurs' film received the Golden Brick for its humorous aspect. The much-coveted Palme d'Or was awarded to Julien for his film Inspector Rouillard. The audience was also able to vote and gave the Audience Award to the film by the after-school program children.

Biathaval:
Do as many laps as possible, for as much fun as possible—that’s the spirit of this morning’s Biathaval. The concept is simple: ski, shoot, repeat. It’s a friendly and festive endurance biathlon race. In teams of 2 to 4, participants aim to complete as many loops as possible of a 3 km circuit in 240 minutes (4 hours). Before passing the relay, the shooting challenge must be completed. The course takes place on the blue cross-country ski loop in the Manchet Valley. Check-in, start, finish, and refreshments will all be at the restaurant. Participants can arrive from 9 AM, with the race starting at 10 AM. The event will also include lots of fun activities, such as a special costume contest and a signing session with French biathlete Lou Jeanmonnot-Laurent, who holds 2nd in the overall rankings, 3 small crystal globes, and 44 podium finishes.

Handisport Skiing for Grandmas:
Enjoying the sensation of skiing—regardless of age. That’s what Val d'Isère’s handisport association is offering this morning, in collaboration with the ESF of Val d'Isère and Tignes, to five senior citizens from the village. Michelle Bonnevie, Micheline Chevallot, Yvonne Ducarouge, Gérard Grosset, and our eldest resident Lilie Pouchkine will get to experience the thrill of skiing for a day on the Bellevarde area thanks to adapted sit-ski equipment. Paralympic champions will be present for the occasion, including Olympic medalist and Tignes local Lou Braz Dagand, and Paralympic swimming champion and speaker David Smétanine.
