WEATHER

Sunny, summery day.
An occasional cloud high in an otherwise big blue sky.
Gentle Foehn and Lombarde winds along the border with Italy.
Warm, and getting warmer.
At 9.50 the temperature is

  • +5° in the Village.
  • +4° on Solaise.
  • +7° on Bellevarde.
  • 0° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2800 metres will be 0°.

ROADS

We are not expecting any problems on our roads today.
Look at local news below if travelling at night next week.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Sun, lovely snow, most pistes opened and groomed,
and only one lift closed.

HOWEVER Don’t be tempted to do anything stupid
Just because it is your last day !
The Face will still be here, when you come back
AND can ski in control !

ON BELLEVARDE
Final morning of The Scara Junior International races
on the OK, Orange and Raye, but they will then open to everyone.
The last wall of the  Epaule du Charvet is closed due to lack of snow
but you can cut into the bottom of the Santons.
The lower part of the Diebold and The Brinzei touring track
are also snow free so closed.
The top part of the Santons will probably close early
due to the risk of an avalanche filling this gulley.

Pistes are always closed by our experts for a very good reason.
Don’t ski under the ropes.

ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste and the lower part of the Marmottons are closed all day.
The upper part of the Marmottons, Fourche, Marais, S
And Ecurreil touring track were not groomed.
This track is for experience tourers, who can do a nifty kick turn.
The L may close early due to the risk of an avalanche
engulfing this gully.

LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret is never groomed so expect :
Hard frozen bumps in the morning.
Soft slushy bumps in the afternoon.

ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and groomed.

Beginners remember :
The snow higher up is always better.
We have fast comfy lifts that will take you down
without breaking  either your legs or your spirit.
So avoiding the lower slopes
Where in the mornings there can be hard frozen uneven areas,
and in the afternoons, after the sun has warmed the snow
Heavy slush.

The avalanche risk today is  2 out of 5.
Though much more  dangerous on North facing slopes,
at the peaks of the Pisaillas.
New snow, wind, warmth, humidity, sun, direction of the slope.
In the last few days at least 2 people were left shivering and shaken
After surviving terrifying tumbles in slabby avalanches.

If you are heading off piste – do all your companions know what they are doing ?
Do they ALL have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Have they ever practised ?
Your life could depend on this.
Remember it could be the most experienced leader who is buried.

Think Time and temperature :
Hard in the morning,
Soft, velvety spring snow when gently touched by the sun
Sticky slush later….
Any doubts – ski with a mountain guide

If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.

Our multi activity and cross country tracks on the top of Solaise and
in the Manchet Valley are open.
A lot of the walking tracks at village level can no longer be groomed
so are officially closed.
It is a nice day to walk along the Col de l’Iseran and
enjoy the spectacular views at the top of le Fornet.

LOCAL NEWS

If you are travelling next week, during the night, read carefully.
Work is starting on the Siaix Tunnel
on the road between Albertville and Bourg, near Aime.
Much needed and will improve the drainage, lighting, electrics,
signals and ventilation.
The tunnel will be closed, in both directions
Monday to Friday 22.00 – 05.00.
There will be a diversion via Notre Dame du Pré,
but nothing over 3.5 tons or longer than 5 metres,
unless you are driving a rescue vehicle.
As always, when approaching roadworks - slow down
Don’t run over the work folk…..

While on the subject of roads….think summer cycles or road trips.
The 14 Savoie high mountain passes are beginning to open,
though Val’s own Col de l’Iseran, the highest in France,
isn’t due to open until the 2nd Friday in June.

Yesterday 180 young men and 150 women,
the world’s fastest Junior skiers, raced in the Scara.
Several of our locals did very well and reached the finals
Including Timéo Lefranc who was 10th in the boys Super G
Jules Dufour Drai 17th in the Slalom and our fastest girl was 27th in the Super G.
While Nessa Gaide from St Foy, so pretty local, won a gold medal.
Well done to you all.

FIS under 14’s Slalom and FIS Under 16’s Super G
