Interviews with candidates for the municipal elections
As we mentioned a few days ago, residents of Val d'Isère could send us their questions for the two candidates in the municipal elections via a questionnaire. The two lead candidates, Xavier Mattis and Patrick Martin, each gave an approximately one-hour interview, answering the twenty or so recurring questions selected. The two candidates had a maximum of three minutes to answer each question. Both interviews can be found on our website. Val d'Isère residents, with their ID cards, can vote for their future mayor on Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the Council Room at the Maison Marcel Charvin.
20 Years of Youth Alpine Skiing
Yesterday morning, 130 middle school students from the Saint-Exupéry school complex in Bourg-Saint-Maurice were in Val d'Isère as part of the Youth Alpine Skiing Program (see photo). This is the first year this middle school has joined this program, allowing its 8th-grade students to participate in a 10-hour alpine skiing course as part of their physical education curriculum in Val d'Isère. It's an opportunity to make alpine skiing accessible to all young people who have never or rarely skied, as explained by Christophe Consigny, Headmaster of the Saint-Exupéry school complex in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
Among the students present was Oscar Jorcin, an 8th-grade student who is more comfortable on Nordic skis than alpine skis. This was a chance for him to improve his skills and ski in Val d'Isère for the first time.
This visit to Val d'Isère provided an opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this free, community-based program run by the Savoie department. It was a natural choice for Christian Grange, Vice-President of the Departmental Council and Delegate for Sports, to celebrate this anniversary in the Val d'Isère resort.
For this anniversary season, 29 participating middle schools are taking part in the alpine component at 24 partner resorts, including Val d'Isère, and 43 middle schools are participating in the Nordic component at 13 sites associated with the event.
Classicaval Concert Thursday
Last night, the final concert of the 32nd Classicaval festival was held in the church of Saint-Bernard de Menthon. 235 people enjoyed an evening dedicated to the Russian Romantic composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, featuring masterpieces such as the melody and waltz from "The Sleeping Beauty" and "Souvenir de Florence."
Classicaval Medals
Following the final concert, two Classicaval musicians were pleasantly surprised to receive the Loyalty Medal. Mezzo-soprano Delphine Haidan and violinist Svetlin Roussev were awarded the silver medal for their 30 years of service. A wonderful way for them to close out this 32nd edition in style. Their sponsor is none other than Dominique Maire, outgoing elected official and classical music enthusiast who has supported the Classicaval festival since its inception.
