Obituary: Simone

Simone Guiral-Giraud, known as "Monette," passed away on Sunday at the age of 88 (see photo). Born in 1938, she was the granddaughter of hotel owners Séraphine Bonnevie (née Bonnevie) and Justin Boch, and the daughter of Marthe Boch (née Boch) and Georges Guiral, owners of the Grand Cocor hotel. Simone Guiral-Giraud began her career at the Perce-Neige before working at her parents' hotel, built in 1963. She worked at the hotel reception and then at the Brasserie des Sports before settling in Aix-les-Bains for a well-deserved retirement. She could often be seen skiing on the moguls at Le Plan or cross-country skiing in the Manchet Valley. Active on the parish council, she visited local businesses every year to collect funds for the League Against Cancer. She will leave a great void for her husband, children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, her sister and brother-in-law, and all the family in Tahiti. A private mass will be held in Aix-les-Bains. Simone Guiral-Giraud will be laid to rest in the family vault in Val d'Isère this Monday at 4 p.m.

Missing Person

Alexandre D., who had been missing since Sunday, February 8, was found dead Saturday morning. He was found with his belongings by two gendarmes and their dogs near Laisinant, on the banks of the Isère River near the campground, opposite the parking lot and not far from the bridge. One of the gendarmes' dogs had already alerted several times in this area the previous day, leading them to search the area. The victim's family and his employer have been notified. The High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) of Bourg-Saint-Maurice responded. The investigation is therefore closed, and no autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. As a reminder, the 43-year-old seasonal worker was last seen leaving a nightclub around 3:30 a.m. His employer had filed a missing person report with the Val d'Isère gendarmerie. Thanks to the village's security cameras, the gendarmes were able to track his movements. The missing person was picked up by the nightclub's shuttle, which dropped him off on Avenue du Prariond so he could go to work. The last images captured by the surveillance cameras showed him heading towards Laisinant.
