Marmottes Gearbox
As we mentioned yesterday, the new gearbox is being assembled in the arrival station of the Les Marmottes chairlift. Several teams are working in shifts, accompanied by two Swiss technicians from the manufacturer and the gearbox company, to ensure the installation is carried out correctly.
These operations are complicated in the middle of winter because it's not possible to bring in heavy lifting equipment like cranes. This is one of the biggest mechanical problems in 20 years, as a gearbox is not supposed to need replacing during the entire lifespan of the lift. We will keep you informed of developments and the reopening date of the Les Marmottes chairlift.
Counterfeit Holiday Vouchers
Be vigilant, professionals. The Val d'Isère gendarmerie has warned of the circulation of counterfeit holiday vouchers in the resort. Even if they look very real, a counterfeit ANCV voucher can be verified by its validity period, the uncut top element, the name on the voucher, or even by more technical criteria, such as fluorescent ink or the sometimes missing watermark. If you are a victim of this scam, file a complaint quickly at a police station or the gendarmerie, contact your bank to stop payment, begin the necessary procedures, and finally gather all the evidence you have. Other resorts like Tignes and La Plagne have already fallen victim to this scourge this winter.
Cross-Country Ski Race
Last night, the Place des Dolomites was transformed into a veritable cross-country ski circuit for a lively night race. Forty amateur skiers competed on a temporary course, set up by the Ski Patrol, featuring bumps and banked turns. This friendly competition was an American-style relay: two people per team took turns for 20 minutes to complete as many laps as possible. After an intense race and several spectacular falls in a convivial and energetic atmosphere, the Chocapik team, made up of Étienne and Camille, took first place with 27 laps, closely followed by the Gaspisse team, Gaspard and Mathis, with 26 laps. The Liddl youth team, Maxence and Guillaume, finished third with 25 laps. Participants also had the opportunity to test equipment loaned by the sports shops in the Place des Dolomites. The next race will be held next Wednesday.
Avaline Trax
And speaking of racing, will you take on the Avaline Trax challenge? The Sports Club invites ski touring enthusiasts to tackle 480 meters of elevation gain at night, by headlamp, through the Daille forest. After being canceled due to a snowstorm two weeks ago, this will be the first Avaline Trax of the season. A unique and friendly experience, the non-timed race will start at 5:45 pm, and the timed race at 6:15 pm from the Daille snow front. The timed race requires a FFME or FFCAM license or a medical certificate. The finish line will be at the festive mountain restaurant, while the awards ceremony and refreshments will take place at the Tontons ski resort on the descent. Registration is online at valsport.org.
