Avalanche
Another avalanche occurred yesterday afternoon, claiming one life. At 4:31 p.m., the ski patrol was alerted by phone to a slide in the Lavancher couloir. The witness reported seeing someone wearing orange clothing on the slope from the valley floor. The area's ski patrollers were immediately mobilized. A few minutes later, the alert was confirmed at the ski patrol headquarters by a skier who reported that their group of six had triggered an avalanche and that one of them was missing. Guided by a patroller from the road below, the rescue team, accompanied by the group, initially located a single deployed airbag before continuing their avalanche transceiver search further down the slope to find the victim under 50 centimeters of snow. After being buried for about fifteen minutes, the man, in his thirties, was in cardiac arrest. CPR was immediately initiated. Called in at the same time, the Modane state rescue helicopter crew also arrived on the scene shortly afterward. Despite all efforts and the rapid response, the victim lost his life. The ski patrol is urging extreme caution, particularly in areas that have been affected by the easterly winds in recent days. Even at very low intensity, the combined winds and the existing, still-mobilizable snow have created new wind slabs.
Health Day
This day is dedicated to health. As every year, the Vie Val d'Is association organizes this event to raise awareness among its members about various medical topics.
After being overwhelmed by its success last year, the Chambéry Hospital Centre has strengthened its team with three doctors, six nurses, and a secretary to welcome patients. It will be possible to get tested for HIV, hepatitis, and other STIs without an appointment and anonymously from 10:50 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., and also to update your vaccinations by bringing your health record. Please note that fasting is not required and test results will be available next Tuesday. From 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., other healthcare professionals will be present, by appointment only, for liver health prevention, including screening for liver fibrosis by measuring liver elasticity, skin cancer screening, and an introduction to osteopathy. Information and prevention booths will also be on site, including the association Le Pélican, which will address tobacco, alcohol, and drug addictions; the League Against Cancer, which will raise awareness about the risks of UV radiation; and the department's social services department with its family planning and sexual health center. The health day will be held at the Maison de Val. Just a reminder that all appointments and screenings are anonymous and free.
Snowboard Avalanche Prevention
The Vie Val d'Is association will be offering an avalanche prevention session for snowboarders this evening. Participants will learn about off-piste risks and the necessary equipment, with advice from mountain professionals. This session is for association members only and requires registration. It will take place at 7:00 PM in the Galise room at the Maison de Val.

Civil Wedding
Vanessa Garriga and Arnaud Gravelle were married yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber. Before exchanging vows before Mayor Dominique Maire, the newlyweds exchanged vows during a ceremony at the summit of Solaise, surrounded by their loved ones, before skiing back down to the Maison Marcel Charvin. The couple met in 2008 during a layover in Bamako, Mali, where they had a heated argument in the swimming pool, and Arnaud jokingly suggested they sell Vanessa for three goats and two camels. Vanessa, originally from Perpignan and a flight attendant for Air France, has known Val d'Isère for 17 years and remembers being stranded on the road one snowy evening with her rental car. Arnaud, originally from the Paris region and an airline pilot for FTL Airlines, has been coming to the resort for 51 years and cherishes many memories, including the games room above the cinema with his friends, playing in the snow on the Thovex climb late at night, and the ballet sessions on the slopes with their best man, Val d'Isère native Frédéric Ducarouge. The couple loves spending time skiing and sledding with Nathanaël, their 4-year-old son. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
