Doctor's Strike
Today is not a good day to get sick or injured. The Médival Medical Centre is joining the national movement of private practice doctors today against measures in the 2026 Social Security Finance Bill. As a result, the facility will be completely closed today, and no doctors will be available in the resort except for an on-call doctor for life-threatening emergencies. Therefore, no nursing care, laboratory tests, or blood work will be available. The medical practice submitted its strike notice a week ago to the town hall and the ski lift company. In case of emergency, you should call 15 (the French emergency number). Due to the closure of numerous medical practices in the mountains and towns, such as Tignes and Les Arcs, hospitals are expecting a surge in patients. Due to the intense winter activity, the Bourg-Saint-Maurice hospital will activate its emergency plan to adapt its operations and ensure continuity of care for vulnerable patients and those with more urgent needs. This national strike is scheduled to last until January 15th. During this period, hospitals are urging the public to use hospital services only in case of emergencies.
Marmottes Chairlift
The Marmottes chairlift has been closed since Saturday due to a technical problem. A part broke in the gearbox. Several STVI teams are working in shifts to dismantle the entire 4-ton gearbox, piece by piece. This is a major operation requiring the lift to be closed for at least a full week. Val d'Isère Téléphérique is currently in contact with the Swiss manufacturer to determine whether the broken part can be repaired, replaced, or if the entire gearbox needs to be replaced. Please note that the repair cannot be done on-site and will therefore be carried out directly at the factory in Switzerland. We will keep you informed of any further developments on this matter.
Town Council
The first town council meeting of the year will be held today, exceptionally at 9:00 a.m. The agenda includes 22 items, including the dates for the 2026 summer season, the authorization to submit the building permit application for the "Le Face à Face" building and the authorization to carry out work on municipal land, as well as the initial 2026 budget, the 2024-2026 multi-year objectives agreement for the Vie Val d'Is association, and the agreement for sharing school facilities between the elementary and preschool and the Valoisirs after-school program. The meeting is open to the public and will be broadcast live on the town hall's YouTube channel. As a reminder, the January town council meeting will take place in the Council Chamber at the Maison Marcel Charvin.
Addiction Prevention
The nursing team from the Le Pélican association will be in Val d'Isère this afternoon with a prevention stand about addictions. Harm reduction materials and brochures will be available to participants. This prevention session is free and anonymous, no appointment necessary. Please note that it is still possible to schedule an individual meeting. The session will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Saint-Jacques building located in the Impasse du Planay.
