Local News

Gérard Mattis

After his burial at the Saint-Roch Chapel, Gérard Mattis's funeral service will be held this morning at 10:00 AM at the Saint-Bernard Church in Menthon. Two screens and a sound system will be set up outside, as well as tents in front of the church, so that the ceremony and eulogies from loved ones can be followed live. Due to the expected large turnout, the Bellevue ascent, as well as Church Street and Nicolas Bazile Street, will be closed to traffic from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. These times may change depending on the length of the ceremony and the number of attendees.

Town Council

Yesterday, the February town council meeting was held with 16 elected officials present. Before beginning the meeting, the council members observed a minute of silence for Gérard Mattis, a town councilor. Corrine Reversade, a municipal councilor on the list, attended the meeting and will also be summoned to the next municipal council meeting in March. Due to a lack of satisfaction, the approval of the January 5th municipal council meeting was postponed to the next session. The mayor then announced the five decisions made. Sixteen items were on the agenda. The municipal councilors adopted a resolution of principle affirming Val d’Isère’s commitment to being an Olympic site for 2030 and authorizing the continuation of the work necessary to develop the final contractual framework. This resolution received one vote against and one abstention. All grant allocations to associations for the 2026 fiscal year were authorized. The item subject to the amendment, “Authorization of a Payment Credit Program” for the renovation of the Aquasport Center, also generated debate, with one abstention. Another abstention was recorded regarding the initial 2026 budget, including the supplementary budget for cultural and sports facilities. The agenda concluded with miscellaneous items, including discussions concerning compensation for the distribution of skier traffic between Tignes and Val d'Isère. The mayor clarified the situation, explaining that the two parties disagreed on the amount to be paid. The municipality of Val d'Isère received an initial proposal from the municipality of Tignes. This proposal, without conditions, involves a contribution of 35% of the revenue generated in the Espace Killy ski area to the joint fund, with conditions for the period after 2032, which are currently unacceptable to Val d'Isère. The full minutes of the municipal council meeting can be found on our website. The next and final meeting of this term will be held on Monday, March 2nd at 8:30 a.m. in the Council room at the Maison Marcel Charvin.

Friends' Descent

Ski instructors and all mountain professionals will pay tribute to the "friends" who have lost their lives in the mountains during the Friends' Descent organized this evening. This memorial has been held for over 30 years.

The Friends' Descent will take place on the Bellevarde Face. Mountain professionals are invited to take the Olympic gondola from 5:00 PM for a pre-dinner drink. Participants will set off around 7:00 PM, accompanied by a fireworks display, and will observe a minute of silence for those lost in the mountains before descending the Face with torches. The evening will continue at a seasonal bar with a second pre-dinner drink and a live concert. Last year, 160 people participated in the Friends' Descent.

CCAS Cooking Workshops

The CCAS (Community Social Action Center) is offering a cooking workshop this evening on zero-waste tips. It's a chance to share a friendly moment, learn new tricks, and cook smart. In a small group, the CCAS invites you to discover simple and accessible techniques, share ideas, and above all, enjoy delicious meals. Throughout the year, several workshops will be offered and are open to everyone. A chef from the resort will be there especially for the occasion to teach you how to prepare tasty, zero-waste, and responsible dishes. The workshop is free but registration is required. The workshop will take place at 7:00 PM in the Presbytery Hall, 14 rue de l’Église.
