Local News
Avalanches
An avalanche occurred yesterday morning around 11:30 a.m. in the Marmottes off-piste area on the Solaise slope in the Manchet Valley . The alert was raised at 11:27 a.m. Ski patrollers responded quickly and extracted the first person, equipped with an avalanche transceiver (DVA), in less than five minutes. Despite the rapid intervention of the rescue team, three men—one French and two foreign nationals whose identities are currently unknown—were found in cardiac arrest and sadly died. The group of four skiers, accompanied by an independent professional guide, was at the bottom of the slope and did not see the avalanche. A victim equipped with an avalanche transceiver, who was not part of the group, was found higher up. A second person was also found thanks to their transceiver in the debris field, which ended in the stream. The guide alerted the ski patrollers that one person was missing. After narrowing the search area to the stream, and with the help of rescue dogs, the third victim was found in the same spot as the second. Their avalanche transceiver was no longer working, which slowed the search efforts. A fourth person was partially buried but managed to escape and was transported to the hospital in Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Two medical teams were airlifted in, and a safety helicopter dropped off the three rescue dog handlers. Two doctors also responded to the scene, along with an emergency physician already present. The avalanche was substantial, stretching 400 meters. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. The avalanche risk was rated at 4/5. The ski resort management strongly recommends that skiers stay within the marked and secured areas of the ski area.

Tree falls on the road between Val d'Isère and La Thuile, and roads reopened
Traffic was interrupted on the RD902 for nearly an hour yesterday morning after a tree fell near the La Raie rest area. The road crews quickly cleared the obstruction. This incident had a direct impact on the planned PIDA (Plan for the Orientation and Development of Traffic) at the Davi crossing overlooking the D902. Initially scheduled for 10:00 AM, the PIDA was carried out at 11:00 AM, delaying the road closure to 10:45 AM between Val d'Isère and the Brévières intersection. It was reopened to traffic in both directions at 11:05 AM. The Fornet road was also opened to vehicles mid-morning after a PIDA was implemented in the Laisinant and Fornet area to secure the road between Les Richardes and Le Fornet. For safety reasons, this road and the Châtelard road remain closed to pedestrians. Safety measures around the buildings were lifted at 10:30 AM.
