Weather
The sky is clear this morning, revealing large patches of sunshine for a few hours. From late morning onwards, the sky will become more overcast from the southwest. Wind at altitude will be weak in the morning, then shifting to southwesterly and by midday strengthening:gusts of 40-50 km/h on exposed ridges.
Currently at 8am it is -13°C up at the Pisaillas, -8°C at the top of Bellevarde and -5°C here in town. Today we can expect a top of 3°C in the village.
Roads
An Avalanche control plan is currently underway across the entire ski area. A second control plan will be carried out in the Laisinant and Fornet sectors to secure the road between Les Richardes and Le Fornet for reopening after repairs. A third plan will be conducted this morning at 10:45 a.m. at La Davi, which overlooks the D902. Consequently, the road will be temporarily closed between Val d'Isère and the Brévières intersection during these operations. We advise you to postpone your departure.
Local News
Snow
Val d'Isère was under a red avalanche warning yesterday due to heavy snowfall. These conditions had a significant impact on the village. Pre-skiing and avalanche control operations were carried out across the entire ski area before opening and throughout the afternoon. Off-piste skiing was strongly discouraged due to a 5/5 avalanche risk. The connection to Tignes was closed, and cross-country skiing was prohibited at Manchet. Due to strong winds at altitude, reaching up to 163 km/h at Pisaillas, all sectors of the ski area were closed for safety reasons, with only the lifts at the base of the slopes remaining open. Safety protocols around buildings were activated, and the Departmental Operational Center was contacted by the Prefect of Savoie. The access road to Le Fornet was closed to all traffic at midday. Further closures were implemented for pedestrians at Les Châtelard. Traffic in the village was heavily disrupted this morning, with some cars stuck and the Blue Train only running between the Pistes roundabout and the Club Med. A safety commission meeting was also held to implement new regulations. A PIDA (Plan for the Orientation of the Issuance of Roads) is currently underway across the entire ski area. A second PIDA will be carried out in the Laisinant and Fornet sectors to secure the road between Les Richardes and Le Fornet for reopening after repairs. A third PIDA will be conducted this morning at 9:45 a.m. at La Davi, which overlooks the D902. Consequently, the road will be temporarily closed between Val d'Isère and the Brévières intersection during these operations. We advise you to postpone your departure.
Census
Tomorrow is the last day to complete the census. The municipality encourages all residents who have not yet been counted to fill out the questionnaire. As a reminder, access codes have been delivered to mailboxes. If you do not receive a receipt or acknowledgement of receipt after completing the census, it means you are not counted. You must therefore call the town hall. A final information session will be held today from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the town hall to provide residents with information and answer their questions. The census helps determine future state subsidies to the municipality and the size of public services for the next 10 years. Services impacted by the census include the number of classes in schools, Val d'Isère's classification as a tourist resort, the amount of subsidies for associations, and the number of street cleaning staff. Although rarely enforced, the census is mandatory, under penalty of a €38 fine.
Opening at Barmes de l'Ours
The Flora and Fauna exhibition was a great success last night at the Barmes de l'Ours during its opening. People were able to discover the forty or so works exhibited in the gallery and admire the eye-tracking technique used by the artist Michel Paysant, who was also present. The public also had the opportunity to talk with him about his background, his inspirations, and this unique technique. Michel Paysant's "Flora and Fauna" exhibition will be open to the public free of charge at the Galerie des Barmes de l'Ours until Sunday, April 12.
CCAS Snow Factory Visit
Yesterday afternoon, seniors from the CCAS (Social Action Center) had the pleasure of discovering the inner workings of the STVI (Snowmaking and Vitry-sur-Seine). First, the five participants visited the snowmaking facility and learned about the composition of natural and artificial snow, how the latter is made, the different tools used, and the piste map showing the location of the snow cannons. The snow workshop was a big hit with the seniors, who were able to ask various questions to better understand the work of Val d'Isère Téléphérique. The tour of the Olympic machinery was cancelled due to its closure during the snowstorm.
