WEATHER

Another day of windy, winter mountain weather.
We are getting lots of snow, which always makes us happy.
Today it should snow down to 1500 metres so hopefully no rain for us today.
Yesterday was a bit miserable !!
We had 30 centimetres  of snow yesterday on Pisaillas and only slightly less on our other mountains.
A similar amount should fall before  tomorrow morning.
The sky should clear so this afternoon will be nice, although still a bit windy.
Wrap up well - As wind on a bare face is not much fun.
At 10.00 the temperature is

  • +2° in the Village.
  • -2° on Solaise.
  • -4° on Bellevarde
  • -7° on Pisaillas

ROADS

No problems are expected on our roads today.

SKI REPORT

Another wind-threatens-lifts day so some lifts may not open or will close suddenly.
When you are out keep an eye on the electronic notice boards.
As a testament to our great teams,
despite this morning's PIDA
(where the ski patrollers protect the slopes and village from avalanche prone slopes)
and the wind,
many lifts were already open before 09.30.

Everything is open on the Nursery slope.

ON SOLAISE

Only the 3000 draglift
and the Leissiers, Cugnai and Manchet chairlifts are still closed.

AT LE FORNET
The only lifts running at 10.00 are :

  • Cable car
  • Pyramid
  • Laisinant chairlifts

Nothing is open on the Pisaillas Glacier.

ON BELLEVARDE
The only lifts still closed are
Borsat which takes you towards Tignes.
Mont Blanc chairlift which is still being repaired.

The following pistes will be closed :

  • Tunnel
  • Moutons as the Mont Blanc Chairlift is still not working
  • Boarder Cross and Snow Park depending on visibility
  • Aiguille Pers
  • Combe du Geante
  • 3000
  • Cugnai
  • L
  • Aiglon

Most pistes were groomed overnight.

Tignes can normally be accesssed via the Tommeuse and Borsat chairlifts
but either or both may be closed today.
Borsat is closed at 10.00, though may open later.,
If you get to Tignes, and the wind closes the lifts before you get back,
there are shuttle buses from Tignes 1800.

The avalanche risk today is  3 out of 5.
Make sure that your off piste companions are all suitably trained and equipped.
Your life may depend on this.
Any doubts  - book to ski with a mountain guide.

All our cross county tracks and walking paths are open
and recently groomed except :

  • Les Branges
  • Laisinant
  • Le Col de l'Iseran
  • Lac Ouillette

The French disabled cross country ski Championship is happening in the Manchet this morning.

LOCAL NEWS

Happy Easter !

Hope you all remembered that the clocks went forward last night.

As is a tradition, our lift company has organised Easter Egg Hunts.
The first is 10-11.30 next to the giant Val disère letters on the Grand Pre, on Bellevarde.
The Second is 13.00 - 15.30 is at the Val Kids on the top of Solaise.
The Final is 17.45 on the Savonette nursery slope, and will also include a snake sledge race .

The Manchet Valley is hosting the second day of the French disabled cross-country ski champioinships.
Not the greatest weather,
but that didn't deter the competitors in yesterday's biathlon so
the cross-country race will be going ahead at 10.00.
Why not go and cheer them on !

One of the seasons highlights is the World Monoski Championships.
This resembles a huge party and celebrates  the end of the season,
but it also crowns the World's best monoskiers.
It is predominately Brits who partake.
The venue is the snowpark 10.00 - 17.00 on 17th April.
Followed by essential apres ski in the local bars.

A day late, but we would still like to wish a Happy Birthday to Jacques Juranville,
probably Val's oldest skier,
who celebrated his 97th birthday yesterday.
He is normally out on his skis every day,  and is also well known in the gym.
Unfotunately he was knocked over, while skiing, a few weeks ago and fractured his femur.
Happy Birthday Jacques !
We all wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back on your skis next winter.
