WEATHER
Weather continues to be sunny this morning but clouds may be heading in our direction at lunchtime.
Hopefully the visibility will still be reasonable this afternoon.
Maybe take low light goggles just in case.....
There will be a gentle north westerly wind of 20 km/hour.
The temperature has dropped a little but there is still an inversion with cooler temperatures in the village
than on top of our mountains.
At 09.30 the temperature is
- -5° in the Village.
- -1° on Bellevarde.
- -2° on Solaise.
- -3° on Pisaillas.
Maximum temperature is expected to be +4 ° at 2000 meters.
ROADS
There are no problems on the roads in our village but be careful as the pavements are ICY.

It will be a good day on the slopes as nearly all our lifts and pistes are OPEN !
On Pisaillas
Everything is open and the slopes were all groomed overnight.
At le Fornet
All the pistes and lifts are open EXCEPT the Tunnel piste.
The pistes that were not groomed are
- Petit bois
- Foret
- Table d'Orientation
The Foret is particuarly 'black' at the moment so approach with care !
On Solaise
Everything is open.
The pistes that were not groomed
- Combe martin
- The Marmottons
- The S
- Cugnai
The L should be open all day.
The ski patrol have helpfully dug a huge ditch at the side to protect skiers from an avalanche.
Do not ski in this DITCH ………..
On Bellevarde
Everything is open.
The Raye will be used for training for part of the day.
The Epaule du Charvet was not groomed.
The snow park is open and has a good range to suit all levels.
Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.
The avalanche risk today is an unusual 1 out of 5.
If considering skiing off piste.
Although the overall avalanche risk is 1/5 there are still corniches and slabs which could take you for a fast, and very scary, ride.
Ski only with people you know do regular, successful, beep searches.
Or wait until you are skiing with a mountain guide.
At the moment the lower slopes are very ‘fast’, particularly in the afternoons after many skiers have hardened the surface that was groomed overnight.
PLEASE slow down so you don’t terrify beginners, pedestrians or small children on sledges.
Or lose any control you thought you had, and injure an innocent skier
If your legs are tired, bow out gracefully.
Take the lift down.
Our walking paths are CURRENTLY open.
Might be a nice day to take the lift up and try out the Col d’iseran or Lac de L’Ouillette.
Even have a drink as you admire the views.
Cross Country Skiing tracks are all open.
LOCAL NEWS
Following the interview with our mayor Patrick Martin, on our website, this year’s budget is 1.5 million euros less than in 2023.
In summary :
- Even as efficiency increases
- Less money = less services
- Difficult choices will have to be made.
The Vie Val d’Is, the association for local employees, is holding it’s AGM this evening at 18.30 in the Congress centre.
The agenda includes
- Review of the last year
- The election of the Board of Directors
- Discussion about future projects
The meeting will be followed by a buffet supper.
Unlike most dry, boring AGMs, this should be a fun event.
All Vie val dis card holders are welcome.
Ski lift stats
The lifts were used 4% more last week than in the same week in 2023.
Since the beginning of the season, there have been a small decrease (1.35%) in the use of the lifts since last year.
This has been counted in the same way as last year, ie. not also counted at the new gates that were installed in the autumn and in use for the first time this season.
For those that need more cardio than downhill skiing gives them, there will be a cross-country ski relay race at 18.30 this evening in the area between Val Village and the nursery slopes.
It is free to enter and local shops (Borasso and Intersport) will generously lend you kit if you need it.
Anyone can enter - from brave beginner to experienced professional.
The team that completes the most circuits in twenty minutes wins.
There will be Prizes for the winners and free hot drinks for spectators.
If you don’t want the thrills and spills of competing do come and cheer them on.

Snowboarder Mia Brookes on gold in the slopestyle competition.
You will remember that she became the youngest world champion in snowboarding history at the age of 16 last year.
She first learned to snowboard on a dry slope.
Zoe Atkin won silver in the Women’s Freeski Superpipe.

A temporary track with bumps and banked corners has been installed on the Place des Dolomites next to the bottom of the nursery slopes.
Local businesses, Intersport and Boraso, next to the track, will lend whatever kit needed to whoever wants to take part, and there will be free hot drinks for both competitors and spectators.
The race is a relay, with 2 in each team.
One skis while the other catches her (or even his) breath,
The aim is to do as many laps as possible in 20 minutes.
We hope to see as many of you as possible.
The teams can be made up of local ski instructors, novice holiday makers, enthusiastic youngsters from our village, or a mixture of all three !
If you don’t want to ski, come and sip a mulled wine while cheering them on !
Evening event at the Swimming Pool and Sports centre.
You are invited to relax in the centre’s beautiful pools.
From 19.30 until the centre closes at 22.00,
anyone who has bought a ticket for the swimming pool
can take also use the Wellness Centre’s
jacuzzies, saunas and the hammam
without paying the usual extra charge.

The red shuttle bus (‘le train rouge’) runs between La Daille and Le Fornet, via the roundabout adjacent to the nursery slopes (‘Rond-point des Pistes’) every 6 minutes from 07.00 to 19.00 and then every 20 minutes until 02.00.
The blue shuttle bus (‘le train bleu’) travels between the Rond-point des Pistes and Legettaz every 15 minutes from 08.30 to 23.20.
The yellow shuttle bus (‘le train jaune’) takes you to the Manchet valley via the main street and the rue de la Balme every 20 minutes from 08.30 to 23.20.
